University of California San Francisco is Hiring an Authorization Supervisor Near Emeryville, CA

Under the unit manager, supervises teams of employees responsible for revenue cycle activities related to
securitization of authorizations, addressing of retro-authorizations, resolution of RFIs related to
authorizations as well as other Charge Capture responsibilities. Incumbent receives predetermined work
assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Supervisor will have primariy
responsibility to see that authorizations are secured within appropriate deadlines, that work queues are
updated to facilitate the smooth throughput of patient authorization and address other charge capture
activities. Directs subordinates to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and
policies. Works on issues of limited scope. Requires full knowledge of areas of functional responsibility.

Department Description

Prior Authorization Unit within Faculty Practice Revenue Management Operations will be responsible for the prior
authorizations related to various clinical services performed by the providers who are a part of UCSF Health’s
Faculty Practice Operations unit. The unit will also address other charge capture items including but not limited to
Requests for Information (RFIs), charge edits, registration, and insurance updates, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in supervision in a healthcare setting, and/or working as an authorization lead, authorization team member, clinical practice/auth coordinator
  • Supervisory and organizational skills. Ability to effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to apply reasoning skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution. Provides guidance and judgement within defined standards to determine an appropriate action
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work well with others to achieve common goals. Customer service orientation to quickly address questions or issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to orient, train, coach and monitor staff performance.
  • Working knowledge of revenue cycle management practices and concepts, charge master, billing, coding and collection regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with management across the medical center on new metrics, standardization of reporting / data and project management processes.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communications, with the ability to explain revenue cycle concepts, actively listen and advise.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and delegate assignments efficiently.
  • Knowledge of all relevant information technology, including systems. Tools, applications, processes and methodologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
